In a bizarre crossover event that defies traditional expectations, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Questline Uncovered

According to the official release, "An unusual meeting draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where rumors of prohibited ceremonies and terrifying metamorphoses resonate through the obscurity." The storyline introduces a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a clandestine cult.

The questline focuses on "strange experiments and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Metamorphoses

The preview features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser finishes with a powerful scene showing a character, likely the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the adventure will obtain an exclusive katana in addition to multiple objects concealed throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive implements
• Survey Corps steed

Newest Free Story Addition

This release also adds the game's newest free story content, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic skills: Naoe introduces a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Crossovers

This marks scarcely the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime franchises. The series earlier showcased a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly included a quest that obviously referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
