Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
