'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear following the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative shot from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly hammered in the deflection before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an unbelievable turnaround given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. Amid the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before shifting to right wing-back after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they are adept at dictate and slow down a game. You can believe you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division the Manchester club, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without serious challenge. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that growth for both domestically and internationally, excelling for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including both legs encounters against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I realized I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to spend time with the guys but I'm planning to be the following person to stop using the bus and on the road. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
